His Life Story
Jessie Jones, Fred Cox, Junior, Four Quarters, Dap, Fat man, Big Man was born March 2, 1943 to Jessie and Mamie Thomas in Memphis, Tennessee. God called him home on Monday, May 29, 2017.
Fred was a hardworking and dedicated individual. He worked in construction during his early years and drove the bus for CANI Head Start for over 35 years. He also transported the elderly for Counsel On Aging Transportation. In 2006 he was nominated as Indiana's Community Transportation Driver of the Year. His entrepreneurial spirit was well known throughout the community. He was a devoted member of Parkwood Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor Jim Keckler for eight years. His high level of energy and inability to sit still was on constant display by the mere fact that he was always on the road.
He had style, too. He loved his jeans, his Stacy Adams and his dress shirts. He was definitely not a T-shirt or sweats kind of man. Fred never met a stranger. His ability to talk to anybody about anything was legendary. He had strong opinions about everything.... everyday life, religion and politics. He loved former President Barack Obama and First Lady, Michelle Obama. If you said anything about them, it had better been nice. His wonderful memory will continue in the hearts of his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Elissa Maye-Cox; children, Vincent Jones, Angela Jones, Kevin Jones, Keith Jones, Anita (Daryle) Cross, Felicia (Vince) Wilkes, Alicia (Sam) Reese and Jeffery (Lindsey) Jones; stepchildren, Corey (Lashanta) Conley and Cameron Conley; siblings, Willie, Butler, Clyde, Shekinah, Ruby, Jeanette, and Cynthia Thompson; thirty-three grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mamie Thomas; two brothers, Billy Faison and John Faison; two sisters, Anita Faison and Claire Faison; aunt, Josey Jones; three grandsons, Jeremiah Jones, Elijah Jones and Paul Browning.
