Jesse Lee GoodwinMay 12, 1950 ~ July 26, 2017 (age 67)
Jesse L. Goodwin, 67 of Muncie Indiana succumb to Pancreatic Cancer Wednesday, July 26, at her residence surrounded by her family and loved ones. Jesse was born May 12, 1950 to Druella Kennedy and Eugene Goodwin in Itta Bena, MS.
Jesse lived in St. Louis, MO as a child where she attended St. Louis public schools. She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1968. She then went on to attend Harris Stowe Teachers College.
She received Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. She served on the youth usher board. She later became a member of Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Muncie.
Jesse moved to Muncie in 1972 where she worked at Marhoefer Packing Co. She began her career at Waters of Muncie, formerly Chateau Nursing Home as a CNA in 1984. She served 26 years ending her career at Waters of Muncie as the Activity Director in 2012. After completing her mission of caring for the elderly. God guided her to the love and care of children at Precious Hearts Development Center until her life departure. She was affectionately Grandma Jessie to not only her grandchildren, but many, many children here in this city.
She was a member of the Jamilles Club where she met lifelong friends (Tishie Montgomery and Hattie Lewis), who were by her side until her life departure, as well as first cousin, Mae Isom, employer, Jaynie McCullum, sister/friend Cheryl Davis and best friend Yolanda Johnson. Jesse was a lively, vibrant lady who loved life, people, and lived life to the fullest. She never failed to impart her wisdom on any who needed advice. She always had a smile and helping hand available.
Jesse leaves to cherish her memory her mother Druella Jackson, two daughters; Shante Goodwin-Hearn (Bobby) Detroit, MI, Treneese Davis, Muncie, two adopted daughters Rachel Bass and Tasha Harris, nephew/son Michael D. Ross, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She also leaves seven brothers; Tommie Ross, Albert Jackson, Leroy Jackson, Larry Jackson, (Terrilyn) all of Muncie, Keith Crawford (Sherrie) St. Louis, MO, Hassan Jackson and Timothy Robinson, of Fort Wayne, IN, six sisters; Dorthy Ross, Thelma Davis, Shameka Robinson, Sweeter Robinson, Lalita Jackson, & Shatrice Jackson all of Muncie, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Jesse in death are her father Eugene Goodwin, stepmother Luerazine Goodwin, and brothers; Cornelius Ross, Oscar Ross, Calvin Jackson and Earnest Jackson.
Jesse will be sincerely missed!
