Jimmie RakestrawFebruary 15, 1938 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 79)
Jimmie Rakestraw was born February 15, 1938 Ethel Mae (Collins) David and Clyde David in Commerce. Georgia. He departed this earthly life on Friday, June 9, 2017 after battling with cancer.
He attended school in Georgia and after graduating from high school enlisted in the United States Army. He served 32 years, 10 months, 1 day as a recruiter. While serving his country he received numerous rewards and medals. He had many job titles such as Drill Sergeant, Military Police (MP) and Airbone.
After retiring from the military he settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana; where he remained very active in the community. He was the president of his neighborhood association; after being diagnosed with cancer he still remained an active mentor in the community centers.
Jimmie leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Jimmy Clyde Rakestraw, Jefferi Rakestraw, Rodney Rakestraw, Sr. and Justin Jones; six daughters, Kathy Griffin, Tynisha Jones, Ahmia Jones, Nikita Jones, China Jones and Paris Bankhead; five brothers, Matthew Collins, Ralph David, Robert David, Carey David and William David; one sister, Etlelene (Kenneth) Neal; twenty-two grandchildren, Jasmine, Andre, Rodney, Jr., Shedra, Aunjanique, Ryan, Nick, Sade, Justin, Jimmy, Share, Jaelon, A’Marhion, Antahnaijha, Tavoris, Antahneiyah, Ja’laiyah, Antonio Jr., Kha’Leyah, Antreivion, Joshua Jr. and Antahniyrah; one great grandson, Demetric; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ethel Mae David; daughter, Essence Manning; brothers, Elmer Paul, Walter Collins, Walter Tommy Lee David and Emory David.
