Joe D Miles, Sr.

December 30, 1938 ~ January 22, 2018 (age 79)

Joe D. Miles, Sr. was born December 30, 1938 to Eva Mae McCord and Melvin Miles in Selma, Alabama. He departed this earthly life on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Heritage Park Nursing Home.

Joe was united in holy matrimony to Kathryn Kidd on July 6, 1959. They have been married for 58 years from this union eight children were born. Joe was a great husband, father, grandfather and brother-in-law, uncle and friend to so many, he will truly be missed. He accepted Christ at an early age. After relocating to Fort Wayne, Indiana he joined Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Mike Nicholson. He was a member for over 40 years until his illness. Joe later joined Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Patrick Leonard.

Joe was employed with the Alabama ship yard until he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Upon relocating to Fort Wayne, Indiana he gained employment with Indiana Auto Auction and retired after many years of dedicated service.

Joe leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Kathryn Miles; five sons, George Cooper, Ronnie Miles, Calvin Miles, Joe (Daria) Miles, Jr. and Joseph King; one daughter, Shirley Miles-Harris; special grandson, Lavon (Latoya) Miles; one brother, Hugh Hardy of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Sallie Bell-Holt of Detroit, MI; two god-daughters, Charlene Kidd and LaShonda Giddens; one god-son, Eddie Callen; special friends, John Haywood and Thomas Minder; 28 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Dora Miles and Alice Miles; grandson, Terrence Miles; father, Melvin Miles; mother, Eva Mae McCord; four brothers, Eli Hardy, Arthur Hardy, Charlie Hardy and Richard Miles; one sister , Dora Traynham.

Joe will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery
