Joyce Lovette Swain was born February 12, 1941 to Juanita Odessa (McGee) Watts and Emmett Hall Watts, Jr. in Tuscaloosa Alabama. She departed this life on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, with her family at her side.
She was educated in Tuscaloosa , Alabama. She accepted Christ at an early age at Bailey Tabernacle C.M.E. Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In her early teens, she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana to live with her mother and stepfather, Andy Williams.
Joyce met and married her soul mate Charlie Swain and they were married for 47 years, until God called him home on December 11, 2009.
“Aunt Joyce” and “Nanny” as she was affectionately called by her family and friends. She loved going to the casino’s, traveling and the Chicago Cubs was her favorite team. She enjoyed making anyone feel welcome. To know her was to love her.
She joined Jerusalem Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Dr. Samuel Walker, Jr. She loved her church and was a faithful member for over 50 years. She was employed by General Electric, Fort Wayne State Developmental Center, Pines of America and she retired from Tokheim Corporation.
Joyce loved her children, grandchildren and all her family very much. She was loved dearly and will truly be missed.
She leaves behind her three beautiful daughters, Carmen Swain, Deondra Belcher and Drameka Swain; two sons, Charlie Swain, Jr. and Rodney (Kathy) Swain; sisters, Kitty (Tracy) White, Cheryl Hollins, Mary (Jason) Baker, Emmilla Ross, Carla (Baker) Ingram and Myra Wilson; brothers, Michael (Bessie) Watts, Walter (Carmen) Watts, William “Woody” (Cynthia) Johnson, Lavern Watts and Earlie B. Watts; one uncle, Wilber (Arvetta) Watts; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; special cousins, Eddie Watts and Roberta Jones; brother-in-law, Tim Hollins; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sims; special friends, Alberta Hall, Bertha Dunbar, Joann Nelson and Barbara Hatcher; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Swain, Sr.; parents, Emmett Watts, Jr., Andy and Juanita Williams; brothers, David Watts, Lamar Owens-Mitchell, Emmett Watts III and Shirley “Billy” Harris; sisters, Patricia Singleton and Greta Bradford; best friend, Darlene Smith and great-grandson, Kacen Banks.
