Victor Eugene ButlerApril 5, 1955 ~ July 11, 2017 (age 62)
Victor Eugene "Gene" Butler, the youngest of three children, was born on April 5, 1955, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Rodgers Butler, Jr. and Dorothy M. (Harper) Butler.
He was raised in Grand Rapids, where he confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He graduated from Central High School, Grand Rapids, MI; received his pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and earned his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago and was pursuing his PharmD through the University of Florida, before falling ill.
VIctor's career included a Pharmacy Residency at Rush - Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, IL; Research Scientist, Boehringer Ingelheim, Danbury, CT and GD Searle, Skokie, IL; Clinical Medical Research Manager, Lorex Corp, Skokie, IL; Clinical Regulatory Affairs, Asst. VIce Pres., Zimmer of Bristol Myers Squibb, Warsaw, IN; and Community Pharmacist, as owner of Community Care Pharmacy, Fort Wayne, IN, where he retired after many nearly 21 years of service.
Community affairs were one of his passions and he served on the boards of the African American Healthcare Alliance of Fort Wayne; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; the Fort Wayne Urban League; YLAP and the Fort Wayne NAACP as a Life Member.
He joined Turner Chapel AME Church in 1995, where he served in many capacities including the Sons of Allen Men's Ministry, the Stewardship and Finance Commission, and the Seeds of Faith Choir.
After a prolonged illness, Victor departed this life on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, with his wife and caregivers by his side.
Victor is survived by his wife of 36 years, Raejeanne Butler; daughter, Simone Butler of Baltimore, Maryland; brother, Donald (Phyllis) Butler of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Deborah Russell of Grand Rapids, Michigan; uncle, Dr. John H. Butler; aunt, Dorothy Robinson; mother-in-law, Jean Parks; brother-in-law, Larry (Connie) Parks of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Barbara A. Johnson of Lansing, Michigan, Deborah S. Cummings of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elizabeth Parks of Grand Rapids, Michigan; nephews, Darryl (Kara) Butler and Brenten (Michelle) Walker both of Michigan; nieces, Dr. Ginger Shipp of Florida and Kimberly (Michael) Gayle of Virginia; five great-nephews, three great-nieces and three godsons, Jamaal (Cydya) Thomas of Texas, Victor (Danielle) Marsh of California and John W. Marsh of New Jersey; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodgers Butler, Jr. and Dorothy M. (Harper) Butler; grandparents, several aunts and uncles.
