Edna L. Denard, affectionately known as “Ms. Edna” was born to Ella Mae Wash and James Henry Mann in Humboldt, TN on March 11, 1944.
She attended high school in Humboldt, then got married to the late Ormond Wells where they moved, along with their two children to Fort Wayne, IN in 1965.
Thereafter, she began working at Magnavox (currently known as Raytheon Systems) and ultimately retired.
Ms. Edna later married Alex Denard, Jr. and worked for brief stints at Stuart Manufacturing and as a foster grandparent at MLK Montessori.
Ms. Edna was a phenomenal mother, doting and loving grandmother and a loyal friend. She was passionate about cooking, listening to Lee Williams and The Spiritual Qc’s and Pastor Ernest K. Starks’ CD “He’s Never Failed Me Yet” and about wearing her hats.
With a steadfast belief that “This world is not my home because I’m going to a better place”, Ms. Edna transitioned from this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Sylvia M. Starks and Teresa M. Wells; son-in-law, Michael K. Starks, Sr.; grandchildren, Demetria D. Pettie, Michael K. Starks, Jr., and Sylare B. Starks, all of Fort Wayne, IN; brothers, Aubrey Neil Westbrook and Michael Westbrook, both of Humboldt, TN, Willie (Audrey) Mann, Desoto, TX, Dwight Smith Mann, Memphis, TN, Terry Mann, Jackson, TN, James Mann, Moreno, CA, Michael (Laverne) Mann, Long Beach, CA; sisters, Gwen (Remail) Jenkins, Charlotte Westbrook, Delois Lynn Wash and Stephanie Wash, all of Humboldt, TN, Betty Thomas, Menifee, CA, Pearly (Theo), Fort Rodeo, CA, Barbara Johnson, Moreno, CA; and a bonus mother, she called “Mom Betty”, Betty Mann, Jackson, TN and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Denard, Jr.; mother, Ella Mae Wash; father, James Henry Mann; brothers, Reverend Charles King and Charles Mann; and a sister, Patricia Ann Fair
