Elder William Allen Jr. was born September 2, 1941 to Eartha Mae (Holiness) and William Allen Sr. in Columbus, MS. He departed this life on Sunday, November 3, 2019.
William graduated from Hunt High School in Columbus, MS. He enlisted into the United States Army on May 12, 1964 and received an Honorable discharge on April 29, 1966.
Elder Allen accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was an active Ordained Elder, Assistant Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Junior Church Pastor and Minister of Music at Oakridge Temple C.O.G.I.C, under the late Superintendent Pastor Cornelius Baker.
William married the love of his life Josephine E. Petrie on July 2, 1966. They shared 52 blissful years of marriage until the Lord called her home on September 26, 2018. With their union, they raised three children in the Christian Faith.
William worked for Harvester International (Navistar) as a Supervisor in the Machine Shop until he retired after 38 years of service. After retirement, he worked 14 years at Lowes in the Tools/Hardware and Plumbing departments.
William will be remembered for his many community endeavors, from mentoring the youth (Boy Scouts and Softball Coach) to his Outreach Ministry (with his wife) visiting the area Nursing facilities to offer comforting devotional services to the residents. William enjoyed landscaping and watching football and old westerns. He loved to sing Gospel Spirituals and study his Bible daily. His heart belonged to the church and his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, William Timothy Allen III; two daughters, Kyra (Greg) Smith and Katrina Allen all of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Kamari, Jazmen, Brittani, Enga, Carnell Jr. and William “Willie”; sisters, Martha (Al) Booker of Fort Wayne and Joyce Ann (George) Lee of Columbus, MS; aunt, Emma Mooberry of Fort Wayne; uncle, Henry “Shorty” Holiness of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine E. Allen; parents, William and Eartha Mae Allen; brothers, Mac Arthur Allen and OW Allen; sisters, Louise Whitmore and Magnolia Hall.
Elder Allen will be laid to rest next to his wife, Josephine in Highland Park Cemetery
