Florene (Pinkston) Goodson

September 12, 1927 ~ December 30, 2018 (age 91)

Florene Goodson, daughter of the late Viola and Eddie Pinkston, was born on September 12, 1927, in Newbern, AL, and departed this life on Sunday, December 30, 2018. On June 30, 1945, she became the bride of George W. Goodson, II and they remained husband and wife for 62 years.

In 1946 they moved to Cincinnati, OH because nobody could make a living in that "one horse town." Daddy stated, that while living in Cincinnati, Mom burned so many pots and pans trying to learn how to cook. He never complained because he knew one day she would learn how, because her Mother and sisters could cook. In 1950 they moved to Ft. Wayne, IN. Mom learned how to prepare amazing dished and developed a reputation for cooking her mouth-watering yeast rolls, pound cakes and homemade ice cream.

Mom worked at Slicks Laundry, as a Presser, for a number of years until she became a Licensed Cosmetologist in January, 1961. She also worked at State School, Magnavox and International Harvester and was one of the best "press & curl" artists in Ft. Wayne. Different beauty shops would call her to press & curl the older women's hair for Easter and Mother's Day. Mom accepted Christ as her personal Savior in the mid 60's and was a faithful member at McKee St. Church of God, Calvary Temple and First Assembly of God, until her health began to fail. While a member at McKee St. COG she sang in the Choir, Chairman of the Kitchen Committee, a member of Women's Auxiliary and "babysat" toddlers during Sunday School.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Son: George W. (Everlena Walker) Goodson, III; Daughters: Thelma (Henry) Anderson, Doris (Stacey) Hatch, all of Ft. Wayne, IN. Verna (FreeArthur) Ramsey, Odessa, FL and Lynda Bradley, Atlanta, GA. Sister: Janie (Herbert) Hunt. 22 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Goodson, II (3/07), daughter, Constance Marie Goodson (9/68), 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
