Jimella Harris was born November 3, 1952 to Rosie Lee (Boyd) and Jim Corbett Harris in Caruthersville, Missouri. She departed this life on Saturday, August 31, 2019.
Jimella used her Master’s degree in education to leave behind a legacy of advocacy for early childhood education. She had an un-ending desire to see children of all ages receive individual, one-on-one educational support services whenever a need was identified. Jimella was also a strong advocate for her personal community schools and education as well as her personal community property owner rights when politics or bureaucracies presented possible adverse impacts.
Jimella is survived by her daughter, Kymberli Warren of Houston, TX; son, Jason Hicks of Sacramento, CA; grandson, Jacquese Hightower of Fort Wayne, IN; great-grandson, Jailyn Hightower of Indianapolis; four sisters, Christeen Hill and Rosa Harris of Fort Wayne, Loraine Bass of Modesto, CA, and Sandra (Wendell) Wiggins of Montgomery, AL; three step-sisters, Margaret Belcher, Anita Belcher, and Evelyn (Theodore) Whitfield all of Fort Wayne; two step-brothers, Kenneth Belcher of Fort Wayne and Michael Belcher of Atlanta, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim C. Harris and Rosie L. Belcher
