Johnnie Lee Gray aka “Bro” was given life on September 9, 1947 in Marion, Alabama. He was the second child born to the late Effie Mae Johnson and reared by she and the late Curley Hoss Johnson. We gather to reflect and celebrate his life and work.
Johnnie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Healing Springs MIssionary Baptist Church in Marion Alabama. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Perry County and completed a welding program in Atlanta, Georgia. He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana working in several jobs, then attained employment with General Electric where he retired after 40+ years. He enjoyed family, friends, hunting, basketball and gardening with his wife.
On Wednesday, June 12, 2019 he entered heaven’s gates at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Waiting there to greet him were his parents; sister, Ella B.; two brothers, Joe Files and William Files; two sons, Eddie Javon and Herman “Red”.
To cherish his legacy and rejoice over a life well spent, he leaves a wife of 27 years, Charlotte, whom he adored, six sons, Larry (Ruby) White, Doug (Toni) White, James White, Terry White and Tommy Joe White; two daughters, Ann White and Janet White; five brothers, Curley (Jessica) Johnson , John “Mike” (Antoinette) Johnson, Zebedee (Melanie) Johnson, Joe (Tammie) Johnson, and Willie (Brenda) Files; brother-in-law, Pearson Miles; eight sisters, Dorothy (Robert, Jr.) Hollis, Mittie (Eugene) Williams, Barbara, Sallie (Lloyd) Peterson, Jr., Saundra Johnson, Maria (Clyde) Brown, Dorothy (Oscar) Wilson and Martha Files; six sisters-in-law (four deceased); seven brothers-in-law (five deceased); 36 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews,
