Julia Mae Green was born November 30, 1938, in Mulga, AL to David and Elgertha Banks of Mulga, AL. She entered into eternal rest at the age of 80 on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Doctors Community Hospital, in Lanham, MD. Julia graduated from Westfield High School in 1956.
In 1957, she received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Alversomdrum Business College Birmingham, AL. Julia accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Greater Progressive Baptist Church for 53 years and a member of the “Divine” Women’s Group. She was a strong advocate for the “Freedom School” Boycott in the 1970’s, when African American students city-wide were forced to attend local churches for school. Due to this great injustice, Julia had a strong passion to help resolve this discrimination, so she formed a community meeting at her home on Creighton St. were Mayor Ivan A. Lebamoff participated in. At this meeting Mayor Lebamoff garnered her assistance to not only help rectify the situation but also gather votes for the next mayoral election.
In the 1970s, she was employed by Fort Wayne Community Schools, Hanna and Smart Elementary as a Teacher Assistant. In the late 70’s Julia matriculated to the VA Medical Center Hospital where she retired after 38 years. Education for her children were very important to Julia. Some of our greatest memories of our mother is how she loved and encouraged our family and friends unconditionally. She was a great motivator to many who knew her and always had an open door and kitchen policy. She was great listener and her advice always ended up in the best outcome.
Julia was married to the beloved late Leon Green on April 18, 1957. They moved their family to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1966. In 2016, she moved to Laurel, MD to be with her two loving daughters. Julia leaves to cherish in her memory: She leaves to cherish Anthony L. Green (Tamara Tillawi Green) of Fort Wayne, IN, Jeffery D. Green (Francine Ramos Green) of Houston, TX, Timothy A. Green (Tania Green of Capital Heights, MD and Carol Green, of Houston, TX) Terence Green of Fort Wayne, IN, and her daughters: Patrina D. Green-Cuthbertson of Mitchellville, MD (Jerry Cuthbertson of Morganton, NC), and Consuelo L. Green (Samuel Olatunji) of Laurel, MD.
Over the years, her family has expanded to include sixteen grandchildren: Jeremi Nelson, Cisca Calligan, Damron Bostic, Erica Green, Brooke Paige, Michael Cuthbertson, Blaire Green, Shanna Green, Anthony Green, Jr., Keaton Green, Taylor Green, Kiah Green, Logan Green, Landon Green, Khloe Green, and Karli Green.
