Louise (Davis) Guy

March 1, 1935 ~ August 5, 2019 (age 84)

Louise (Davis) Guy was born March 1, 1935 to Addie (Wilson) and Ezekiel Davis in St. Louis, Missouri. After a long illness, she passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Lutheran Life Villages surrounded by her loving family.

When she was a small child her family left St. Louis, and relocated to Marion, Indiana. After many years in Marion, she relocated to Kokomo, Indiana where she lived for 25 years. In 1974, she relocated her family to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In 1984, she united in holy matrimony to Rev. Hue E. Guy becoming the first lady of Star of Bethel Baptist Church. She served as President of the choir for 25 years; President of the IBDA Senior Women for 10 years. She remained a faithful member attending services and receiving communion regularly until her health made it impossible for her to occupy the end seat of the second pew on the right side of the sanctuary every Sunday morning. As her health failed she continued to cling to the hope she confessed so long ago and knew that all was well because God was in control.

Louise was also a long-time member of the Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star. She worked as a professional seamstress for years; where she was known for her original designs and creations. She also worked for the City of Fort Wayne and retired in 1991 after many years of dedicated service.

Louise was an excellent cook. Many people have enjoyed meals she prepared. She spent much of her time in the church basement frying chicken and fish. She made the best fried corn, collard greens and hot water cornbread. Her biscuits and German chocolate cake were perfection. She would lovingly feed anybody that wanted to eat.

She was fun loving, outgoing and loved spending time with her family. She would flash her beautiful dimpled smile when happy. When you crossed her she would give you a look that would make you reconsider whatever it was you were doing to say or do. She was direct and sometimes harshly honest; but she had a good heart and went out of her way to help those in need. She had a beautiful voice and was well known throughout the church community as she freely shared this gift whenever requested and when she was moved to do so.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rev. Hue E. Guy; son, Ezekiel "Pete" Davis; daughters, Addie Settappa, Debra Woodard, Sabrina Thomas and Cressie (Frederick) Hill; brother, Clarence Davis; 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sons, George Lyle and Marlon Lyle; parents, Ezekiel and Addie Davis; brothers, Patrick Davis, James Davis and Ezekiel Davis, Jr.; sisters, Rutha Davis and Georgia Davis-Ligon.

For those who wish to honor the memory of First Lady Louise Guy, memorial contributions may be made to Star of Bethel Baptist Church, 3223 Smith Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46806.
