Lucetta was born on July 12, 1934 to Cora (Turner) and Rosel Kelso in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was the only girl of three children. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in Waukegan, Illinois.
"Tutta" as her brother Sonny affectionately nicknamed her, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. John Dixie, III. She was a faithful member of the choir and usher board. Tutta graduated from Central High School and in 1968, she relocated to Compton, California moving later to Los Angeles where she met and married John Hoskins. To this union two children were born, Rosalind and Peggy, her darling daughters. Tutta later became a member of Holy Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor L. Dudley and later under Pastor Leonard B. White, where she eventually became President of the Senior Choir. Most notably, her return visits to Fort Wayne resulted in her singing with Pilgrim Baptist.
As the matriarch of the family, Tutta returned to the Midwest to Dayton, Ohio to become the caregiver for her brother Buddy. Upon his passing she came back to Fort Wayne, Indiana and reunited with her home church, Pilgrim Baptist, where she promptly began singing in the Gospel Chorus, Senior Choir and the United Voices.
Tutta often told stories of her parachute manufacturing job and about the L.A. Olympic games adventures. She loved her family her legendary storytelling always had her surrounded with listeners at family gatherings. She loved to cook and make others laugh with her about her life's adventures.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Rosalind Kelso of Fort Wayne, IN; stepdaughter, Germaine Henry of Los Angeles, CA; son-in-law, Jeff Boyd of Fort Wayne, IN; sister-in-law, Clydie Kelso, three granddaughters, Tina Kelso, Tennylle Kelso and Tolunda (Justin) Mosley; eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren all of Fort Wayne, IN. Yes, she was blessed to see five generations.
Lucetta went to sing on the Banks of Jordan with angels, her husband, John Hoskins; daughter, Peggy Boyd; parents, Rosel and Cora Kelsoe; brothers, Buddy Kelso and Sonny Kelso.
The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the staffs of Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana and The Glen Lake Nursing Home in Waukegan, Illinois for the meritorious care of their matriarch.
