Robert Pernell White was born at 10:00 am on Friday, August 31, 1962 to Gwendolyn (Howell) and Robert White in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He departed this life at 10:11 am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Parkview Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
“Pernell” as he was affectionately called by family and friends accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Greater Progressive Baptist Church. He played baseball for Wildcat Little League and he was a legend on Weisser Park basketball court. He was an avid sports fan and there was none that he did not like.
Pernell attended Fort Wayne Community Schools and graduated from South Side High School. On July 17, 1981, he enlisted in The Army National Guard of Indiana. He received an honorable discharge on June 16, 1987. He reenlisted on September 24, 1987 and received another honorable discharge on October 30, 1997. He was employed with the Hilton Hotel Chain for over 10 years. He was currently awaiting to return to his position with the Tin Caps organization.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Gwendolyn Brown; brothers, Stephen (Jennifer) Brown of Seoul, Korea and Kevin Brown of Fort Wayne; sisters, Susan Rouse of Columbus, OH, Stephanie Gilmore and Karalyn (Reginald) Whitt both of Fort Wayne; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Howell of Lima, OH; favorite aunt, Joann Chandler; favorite cousin, Wayne Kelly; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Robert White and Curtis Brown; paternal grandparents, Mr. Jessie and Mrs. Louise White; maternal grandfather, Paul C. Howell; and brother, JR Rogers.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Parkview Medical Staff for the loving care that was given to our love one.
