Savannah Ann (Wyatt) Hicks
"She will be remembered as a beautiful and strong woman who dearly loved her family"
Our mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend 94 years old, met her Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 28,2019; when she passed away peacefully at Parkview Regional Medical Center. She was born Sunday, October 19, 1924 to Mattie (Williams) and Samuel Wyatt in East St. Louis, Illinois. Her parents relocated to Hope, Arkansas; where she graduated from Yeager High School. Upon graduation, she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1942. She met and married her husband, Clarence L. Hicks, Sr. To this union seven children were born. She worked in various positions. However, she became a stay at home mom and attended Indiana Institute of Technology, with three of her children at the same time.
She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor John Dixie, Jr., Pastor Sam Shade, Jr. and currently Pastor Raymond C. Dix, Jr. She served in the Gospel Chorus, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Department, Sympathy Club, Floral Club, B.T.U., Bible Study and Prayer Meeting. She served faithfully for 50 + years in various positions.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her sons, Rev. Clarence L. (Anne) Hicks, Jr., Ernest Hicks and Shawn Hicks; daughters, Ernestine Hicks and Deborah (Cleophas) Walker; son-in-law, Leon Hill; granddaughter whom she raised, Joy (Lewis) King and wrote a book with..."The Reinvented Woman"; grandsons who would cater her with love, David Easley, Jr., William "JockyBoy" Dailey and Pastor Shaquan Walker; granddaughters, Teri Easley and Shardae (Andrew) Wilson whom she adored for their special visits to make her laugh; 24 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Arie Lee Wyatt.
Special recognition to her cousins, Elbert and Dean Wyatt, Luther Wyatt, Billy Hicks, Sr. and Stevie Wyatt. Her special friend, Beulah "Ms. Mae" Bates and Trail Edge neighbors. To all who gave Ms. Savannah Hicks...Memories...Happiness...Laughter... and Love "THANK YOU"
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Hicks, Sr.; daughters, Doran Ann Easley and Algerine Hill; granddaughter, Twanna Easley; brother, James Wyatt, Sr.; sisters, Ola Mae Woods and Helen Moore; sisters-in-law, Ernestine Washington, Louise Samuel and Dorothy Hicks; brother-in-laws, Ocie Hicks, Homer Hicks and Willie Washington; nephew, Louis Collins.
