Valerie Lynn (Harden) Parhm was the youngest of six children born to Bettie M. (McAlpine) and George Harden, Sr. on October 4, 1958 in Birmingham, Alabama. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at her residence. She accepted Christ at an early age at Progressive Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Jesse White, Sr.
She attended Fairfield Elementary School and Southside High School. In her spare time, she enjoyed receiving her “blessings” from her favorite stores and being a home interior decorator. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends it didn’t matter if they were hungry or not.
Valerie leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 39 years, Earl B. Parhm, Jr.; one son, Kalen Parhm of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Colandria (Junius) Pierce of Elkhart, IN, Jantel Lamb of Fort Wayne and Diamond Mays of Mississippi; one god son, Larry Hunt of Fort Wayne; mother, Bettie M. Harden; three siblings, Ethel (Roosevelt Sr.) Collins, Johnny (Jennifer) Harden and George Harden, Jr. all of Fort Wayne; father-in-law, Earl (Alona) Parhm, Sr. of Alabama; mother-in-law, Dorthea (James) Avery of Fort Wayne; six sister-in laws, Berneda (Henry) Smith, Rose Houston and Karen (Jeff) Whitt all of Fort Wayne, Lillian Parhm of Korea, LaSherra (James) Bias of Florida and Mary Ware of Mississippi; three brother-in-laws, Alex Parhm of Georgia, Ralph Cole of Fort Wayne and Donald (Francis) Ray of Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Harden, Sr.; brother, Linzell Harden; sister, Joyce A. Harden; sister-in-law, Maggie Cole; mother-in-law, Minnie L. Parhm; two nephews, La’Quentin Harden and Da’Vonte’ Cole.
