The Life of Beatrice Woods

Mother Beatrice Smith-Woods was born September 30, 1934 in Pine City Arkansas to the late Robert and Magnolia Mayo, she was the fifth child out of ten. She accepted Christ at an early age.
She met and married the love of her life Lawyer B Smith Sr. which lasted over fifty years until Lawyers death. To this union was born three children; Lawyer B. Jr, Gerome, and Doris. Several years after Lawyers death Beatrice married Arthur Woods until his passing.
Beatrice and Lawyer moved to Fort Wayne, they joined Jerusalem Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Walker, and completed her membership under the leadership of Pastor Maurice E. Culver.
She served in many ministries; Ebony Voice Choir, Chancellor Choir, Mission Department, President of the Deacon and Deaconess Board. Bea’s last assignment at Jerusalem was President of the Mother Board. She loved serving with her fellow mothers and sat on the second row every Sunday with pride. She attended Sunday School and Bible Study. Beatrice loved Jerusalem Baptist church and continued her work faithfully until health prevented her to physically to attend.
Mother Beatrice retired from Luther Hospital after many years of service. Beatrice loved her family and enjoyed shopping and traveling. Mother Beatrice had a since of fashion, ALWAYS dressed to the “t” whether in her Sunday Best, or casual wear walking in the mall. She had the opportunity to travel across this country to watch her grandchildren play football.
She leaves to cherish her memories; daughter Doris (Minister Floyd) Bledsoe; brother, Loyd (LB) Barnes; brother and sister n love Rev. Gayron and Delois McGee, sister n love Mother Inez Mayo and a very special daughter n love Arnetta Smith all of Fort Wayne, sister Catherine Goggins of Denver Colorado. Sister n love Donna Marie Moore of Houston Texas.
Eleven grandchildren; Lamar Smith, Shronda Hayes both of Houston Texas, TJ Smith of Memphis Tennessee, Ketra and Keshia Smith of Indianapolis, In, Lawyer III (Tierra), Damond, Dismond, Danyell, Jermone and Tyray Smith all of Fort Wayne; fifteen great grandchildren, the last one Benjamin aka “Benji” which she named. Many nieces and nephews.
Mother Woods was preceded in death by her father and mother; Robert and Magnolia Mayo; husbands, Lawyer Smith Sr, and Arthur Woods; sons, Lawyer B, Jr and Gerome Smith; sisters, Susie, Vornia Mildred, Bobbie; brothers, Darnell, Doc, and Leroy; granddaughter, Larnetta.
