Berdia Mae O’Quin went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2021 at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 29, 1937 in Barlow, MS to Allie Moody and Lewis Coleman. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Fred, and Willie O’Quinn whom she absolutely loved, adored, and appreciated.
She moved from Mississippi to Fort Wayne in 1963. Berdia was a strong, independent and an extremely hard worker. She retired from Fort Wayne State Developmental Center after 36 years of service. She also worked as a home health care aide in Ossian, IN and a House Mother for a local group home before finally retiring for good.
She was a dedicated and faithful member at New Life Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Terry. Berdia was a very encouraging person who always had words of wisdom for everyone she talked to. Her family was her pride and joy. She will truly be missed.
She leaves to remember and celebrate her life her children, Alice (Mayo) Cummings of Fort Wayne, IN and Deborah (Bradley) Bransford of Honolulu, HI; sisters, Shirley McGrady, Fort Wayne, IN, Novalean Moody of Hermanville, MS, Ethel Reed and Annie Morgan both of Port Gibson, MS; brothers, Fred O’Quin Jr. of Port Gibson, MS and Gene Moody of Hazlehurst, MS; four grandchildren: Latika O’Quin, Patrick O’Quin and Angela Moore all of Fort Wayne, IN and Natalie Bransford of Honolulu, HI; a host of great-grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry O’Quin; brothers, Robert Moody, Willie R. O’Quin and Otis O’Quin; sisters, Ruby Turner and Annie C. King.
Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
