Essie Lean Davis was born June 1, 1935 to Leola (Rhode) and George Davis in Bienville, Louisiana. She passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Ashton Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Essie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bienville, LA. She relocated to Saginaw, Michigan and became a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. In 2010, she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana and joined Friendship Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Guy Willis.
Essie was employed by St. Vincent’s Boysville in Bienville, LA. She was an Artist and had the opportunity to have her Artwork on display at Grambling State University in Grambling, LA. She enjoyed taking vacations and would visit her family members every year.
Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Vivian (Curtis) Davis-Underwood; two grandsons, Gregory Willis, Jr. and James (MacKangela) Willis all of Fort Wayne; three great-grandchildren, Jamia Wingard of Atlanta, GA, JaNae Willis and Caleb J. Willis both of Fort Wayne; god-daughter, Stephanie Ray of Atlanta, GA; a young lady dear to her heart, Tiairra Hairston of Fort Wayne; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leola Davis; stepmother, Susie Davis; brother, Hartful Davis; sisters, Clevie Lard, Willie Mae Jackson, Eddie Mae Barber, Mary Ola Davis-Lathon and Helen Joe Welton.
