Gerone Smith was born November 9, 1953 to Beatrice (Mayo) and Lawyer B. Smith, Sr. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He departed this life on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital.
Gerone graduated from Northrop High School in 1973 and shortly after relocated to Elkhart, Indiana; where he worked for Conrail Railroad until his illness prevented him from working. He later moved to Mobile, Alabama returning to Fort Wayne, Indiana a few years ago.
Gerone accepted Christ at the age of eight years old. He joined and was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Dr. Samuel Walker, Jr. He rejoined Jerusalem Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Maurice Culver; when he returned to Fort Wayne and remained a faithful and committed member until his death.
Gerone loved his children, his mother, family and friends. He was always willing to pass on good information to help someone. He was the glue that kept the family together. He would call all of us and he would always have different kinds of information that would help you. He also loved fishing, shopping at Walgreens and Walmart. His favorite food was Burger King. He could get a roasted chicken from Walmart and fix it five different ways. He was a dresser he would be dapped from head to toe.
Gerone leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Shronda Hayes; sons, Gerone Lamar Jones, TJ Walker and Terrance Jones; mother, Beatrice Woods; sister, Doris (Min. Floyd) Bledsoe; sister-in-law, Arnetta Smith; grandchildren, Imari Arrington, La-Montrelle Thomas Manning, Quanaisiah Eva Mae Cummings-Jones, and TJ Walker, Jr.; uncles, LB Barns and Rev. Gayron (Delois) McGee; aunts, Catheran Goggins, Donna Marie Moore and Inez Mayo; longtime friend, Keith Williams of Mobile, AL; childhood friends, El Nelson and Fredrick Stevenson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawyer B. Smith, Sr. and brother, Lawyer B. Smith, Jr.
Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
