Obituary

Helen Elaine Brooks, born on October 15, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Jessica (Bassett) and Luther Anderson. She departed this life on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Lutheran Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was reunited in Heaven with her husband of 30 years, Deon Brooks, who was the love of her life.

Helen attended Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, IN before her family moved to Fort Wayne, IN where she finished her high school education at Central High School.

After high school, Helen started a career in nursing field. She had always had the loving and nurturing heart to care for others. Helen loved her family and enjoyed cooking, and you could always stop by her home for a visit, and it was always hot food on the stove. She was a mother to everyone she met, and she loved her dogs (Bones and Tupac).

She drove an orange colored 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado automobile (it was the cleanest in the city) with her initials on the front “HET” better known as “Mama HET”.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Damia Tyson (James) Brooks and Dawanna (Adrian) Grant; four sons, Mark (Elizabeth) Tyson, Michael (Catherine) Tyson, Dennis Tyson, Courtney (Annie) Tyson; and five children whom she took pride raising as her own, Anthony Winston, Shannon (Sheila) Winston, MacArthur Felix, Etonia Anderson, and Shannai (John) Winston-Green; 52 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Luther Jr. (Anna) Anderson, Ralph (Kay) Anderson, Michael Anderson, and Kay Brooks; a host of other relatives, special friends, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Jessica Anderson; husband, Deon Brooks; two sons, Charles Anderson, and Terrence Tyson; grandkids, Jarica Tyson, Dazman Dukes, Mahogany Wallace and Shaunte Felix; great grandkids, Aaliyah Tyson, Quintarious Stewart, Juanita Moore, and A’Mayah Moore; four siblings, Reginald Anderson, Anita Anderson, Marie Dixon, and Sharon Anderson.
