Joe Earl Harris was born on March 23, 1934 in Marion, Alabama, the third child of Rogers and Lueretta Harris. He passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 23, 2020.
After moving to Fort Wayne with his family, he joined the congregation of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he served as a longtime member of the Chancel Choir and helped many members attend services as a church bus driver. Joe graduated from Central High School, volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army where he served as an airman and helicopter mechanic. Joe retired in 1996 from Dana Incorporated after 26 years, and he later supported Fort Wayne Community Schools’ students with special needs as a school bus driver for five years.
Joe was a loving and caring husband, father, and friend who enjoyed to spend his free time fishing with his family and dear friends.
Surviving Joe are his wife of 33 years Ida Harris; children, Joseph (Alicia) Harris, Debra (Baemon) Boyd, Sonja Harris (Darryl) Warren, Larry White, Terry White, Susie, William (Jenni) Nesbitt, Jonathan (Ginger) Harris, Annette, Andrew, and Alexander; brother, Clem L. Harris; sisters, Earlean Boyd and Mary Morton; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rogers and Lueretta Harris; first wife, Joanne Harris; children, Ted Talley, Gloria Harris, Denise Harris, Artisse; and sister, Louretta Harris..
