Pastor Roy Pennington Jr., (Wick) 86 of Fort Wayne, IN, transitioned to be with his Lord on, Monday, June 29, 2020, at Parkview Memorial Hospital.
Pastor Pennington was born on September 17, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN, to Roy Lee Pennington Sr., and Ethel (Payne) Pennington-Grundy.
He attended John Hope #26, in Indianapolis, IN, until his mother married Robert E. Grundy, and moved to Fort Wayne, IN, in 1946, where he later attended Central High School.
After high school Roy enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii.
Once returning home from the military, he worked at his grandfather’s furniture business where he met Lucille Massie, while delivering furniture.
They were married on September 19, 1961. She preceded him in death in 2010 after 49 years which they shared a beautiful life together.
Roy was Baptized in Jesus Name under the leadership of District Elder Henry W. Jones, at Christ Temple Apostolic Church. He served as Armor Bearer, Sunday School and Bible Class Teacher, and member on the Ministerial Staff.
Roy worked at International Harvester until the closing of the Fort Wayne Plant. He also worked for Fort Wayne Community School as a Bus Driver, until his retirement.
In 1979, by the leading of the Lord he and his late wife founded Emmanuel Apostolic Church, with humble beginnings on Pontiac Street. Under his leadership may souls were saved, healed, delivered and set free. He was well versed in the Book of Revelation, which many enjoyed his teaching.
The church was able to purchase 2412 Central Drive, with a group of faithful and dedicated members. After 5 years the building and land was paid in full.
October 2013, he retired from the ministry, to become Pastor Emeritus, yet still serving until his health declined.
Roy married Joanna Ellis on February 14, 2015, whom loved and cared for him until his final days.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Joann Pennington; son, Leroy (Tracy) Pennington; daughters, Norlene Safer and Barbara Barnes; sister, Betty Pennington-Phillip; grandsons, Cameron Pennington, Jeremy Pennington and DeMarkus (Faye) Pennington; great grandchildren, Jerimiah, Jayden, Demonte, Winter, Chase, and Royal Pennington; special niece, Pamela Wilson; great niece, Tina Murphy; cousin raised like a sister, Frances Grant; cousin, Debra Taylor. Many Godsons and Daughters; three stepsons, two stepdaughters, ten step-grandchildren, 1 stepdaughter in-law, four brother in laws, four sister in laws, mother in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends.
He was preceded in death by Walter and Betty Payne, Roy Pennington Sr, Ethel Grundy, Robert Grundy, Michael Presley, Lawrence Pennington, Brandon Pennington and Marie Gill.
Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
