Roberta (Shade) Evans was born on September 12, 1926 in Boligee, Alabama (Greene County) to the late Sam and Alberta (Cade) Shade.On August 30, 2022 at Parkview Regional Medical Center she departed this life at the age of 95 and was 13 days from her 96th birthday. Roberta confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Christian Valley Church in Alabama. After moving from Alabama to Fort Wayne to join other family members, she became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. William Caldwell and continued under the current leadership of Rev Albert A.Walker.
In 1948 she married the late Emmett Evans and from that union one son and four daughters were born.She was employed at Fort Wayne National Bank, now know as PNC Bank, and retired after 23 years of service. She enjoyed working outdoors, planting, gardening and harvesting her vegetables she had grown. She spent many hours in the kitchen, cooking for family or whoever would stop by the house. She loved God and raised her children and grandchildren in the nurturing of God. She truly was the monarch of the family. Roberta leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Emmett James Evans, Columbus, Ohio, three daughters,Eliza Ann(Robert)Jackson of Fort Wayne, Delia Marie(Gregory)Dean of Cincinnati, OH and Camille McGloiry of Palm Springs, CA. Two brothers, Rev. Sam Shade Jr., and Andrew Shade, one sister Georgia Mack; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Sam and Alberta(Cade) Shade, husband, Emmett Evans, daughter, Dorothy Jean Barker, grandson, Brandon McGloiry, four sisters Leona Byrd, Lucy Todd, Eliza Cotton and Willie D O’Neal and one brother, Joe Shade.
