Ruth Elizabeth (Brown) Adams was born June 28, 1925 to Mammie (Ivey) and Rev. Phillip H. Brown in Columbus, Mississippi. Mother Adams went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2020. We thank God for allowing us to have her for 95 years Hallelujah!!
Ruth joined in holy matrimony to Robert Sydney Massenburg from this union came a daughter Rose Marie Massenburg. She graduated from Mary Mount School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She went on to have a long and successful career in Nursing until retiring from the V.A. Medical Center after 26 years of service. Mrs. Adams didn’t stop there, she participated in an organization that assisted single mothers in getting jobs and finishing school by keeping their children. It was called Friends of Bethany. Her other spirit led sisters were Mary Fields and Rosie Chapman.
“Mother Adams” as she was affectionately called by her loving family and church family. She also loved her family and dear friends; but most of all she loved her God. She was a dedicated member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for 38 years.
Mother Adams favorite answer to others was “Baby whatever you need I’m here for you.”
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Rose Marie Massenburg-Green; two step daughters, Shirley Massenburg-Hill and Christeen Massenburg-Link; two sisters, Mrs. Ocie Davenport of Naperville, IL and Rev. Elizabeth Hairston of New Mexico; loving cousins, Mrs. Annie Bray, Mattie Knight and Catherine Pearson; adopted daughter, Nancy Grey niece, Ruth Pearson; god-daughter, Gayle Hamilton; and a host other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Adams; parents, Rev. P.H. and Mammie Brown; brothers, Phillip Brown, Jr.; sisters, Rose Pearson and Laura Davis; loving son-in-law, Walter Green and aunt, Minnie Johnson.
Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
