“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 KJV
Sam Smith was born on January 10, 1948 in Uniontown, Alabama. He was the son of Rowenia (King) and Sam Smith.
Sam accepted Christ at an early age. He also recommitted his life to Christ twice for his own personal satisfaction. He was a faithful member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.
He shared his life with his greatest love, Gladys Mae Leverette. They married March 18, 1975, and have been inseparable since. They were only a few days from celebrating 46 years of marriage. During their union they shared a lifetime full of memories along with nine children, 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Sam retired from B. F. Goodrich after 25 years of service.
He will be remembered as a kind-hearted people person, who was well known, and always willing to help anyone in need. He loved gardening, cooking and serving his God. Sam’s homemade ice cream was always a big hit! The love for his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family was unwavering.
Those left to cherish his precious memories of the love and joy he gave include his loving wife, Gladys Smith; children, Sheronda, Allen, Katina Leverette, Shane, NaJessica, Smith, Monty Flippen, Marcus Flippen, Melissa Flippen and Beverly Dixon; grandchildren, Na’yanna, Jamya, Monajah, Cortez’, Channe, Izaya, Naziya, Daunte, Donovan, Brooklyn, Areian, Myla, Marqualyn, Ja’Vion, Ja’Niya and Ja’Naya; great-grands, Gab, Inyko, Nasir and Daniel; sisters, Martha Smith, Josephine Chumney and Katherine James; brothers, Robert Shearer, and Willie James (Connie) King and a host of other family and friends.
