Sylvester Jones was born November 29, 1962 to Dorothy Jean (Thigpen) and Baccus Jones, Jr. in Selma, Alabama. He departed this life on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at his home.
Sylvester’s grandparents, Eugene and Edna (Thigpen) Smiley, Sr. raised him as an infant after his mother passed away in a car accident. He was raised along with twelve other siblings. Whom grew up together on Wayne Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended North Side High School. He loved music and his favorite was reggae.
As a young man, he loved to walk around with his beat box on his shoulder and was known for spitting a few rhymes with the best. He was a no-nonsense guy that was full of life. He was just a cool smooth guy. Some of his favorite snacks were cashews, pralines and pecan praline ice cream.
He was know as “Sly Dog”, he definitely was a ladies man, and ended up with twelve children that he wanted nothing more than for all of them to be together.
Sylvester leaves to cherish his memory his children, Tameika Riley, Sylistra Williams, Dorothy Jean Hunter, Shayla Anderson, Sylvester Schock, Marquese Jones, Sylvester Jones IV, Sylvester Jones V, Eugene Jones and Angelo Jones; brothers, Charles (JoAnn) Smiley, George (Suretha) Smiley, John (Nikitta) Smiley, Walter (Jackie) Smiley, Sr., Chester Smiley, Robert Smiley and Eugene (Doris) Smiley, Jr.; sisters, Nisey (Robert) Harris, Ellen Smiley, Elaine Smiley and Denise Smiley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sylvester Jones III; parents, Baccus and Dorothy Jones, Jr.; brother, Robert Smiley; grandfather, Eugene Smiley, Sr.; and grandmother, Alice Howard.
