Our husband, father, grandfather, and friend 90 years old met his Savior Jesus Christ when he passed away peacefully in Parkview Hospital North.
William was born in Marion, Alabama to both the late Willie P.and Jennie Marie King. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of St. James Baptist Church. He graduated from Lincoln Normal School. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army as a Military Policeman where he served two terms September 1, 1948 – September 1, 1949 and October 19, 1949 – September 26, 1957. He received an Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant. He was a proud Veteran who served in the Korean War. William would later move to Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor John Dixie, Jr. and Pastor Sam Shade, Jr. He worked at the city’s sign shop as an installer until his retirement from the City of Fort Wayne. He loved all things history, news, politics and current events.
He was a devoted husband for over 50 years to his cherished wife, Theola (Whittle) King who survives him along with sons, Edward King, Freddie King, Pastor Lewis (Joy) and Kyle King; daughter, Ruby King; special grandsons, Addison King and Zyon Myers; brother, Eugene King; sisters-in-law, Mary (Johnnie) Kennie, Thelma Jemison, Doris Whittle and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by son, William R. King Jr.; daughters, Mary King and Joyce Marie King; grandson, Lewis A. King Jr.; sisters, Jennie Bell Goree and Mary Helen Bennett; brother, Albert King.
