Willie Mixon

March 2, 1952 ~ December 30, 2021 (age 69)

Obituary

Willie Mae, lovingly known as Tootsie & Speedy by her close family, was born on March 2, 1952 to Portis and Lena Mae (Johnson) Mixon in Prescott, AR in the Upchurch community. This close-knit community of family and friends is where she grew up and where she attended Sweet Home Church of God in Christ, singing in the choir and with her sisters. Willie Mae attended the all-black McCrae Schools before attending Prescott High School. She would later move to Fort Wayne, IN a short time, before returning to Prescott and continuing her education at Red River Vocational Technical School in Hope, AR.

Willie Mae made home in Fort Wayne, Indiana and it was there that she united in marriage to Ronald Bynum on February 2, 1974. She and Ronald raised her son Kelron Mixon, and one other son, Curtis Bynum was born to this union before its dissolution.

Willie Mae is loved and remembered for her unique sense of humor, quick wit, and most of all her laughter. She loved to dance and she loved her music, as was evidenced by the extensive collection of old records and albums she had collected over the years. She liked to read books, draw, do puzzles, watch the Three Stooges on TV, and she loved a strong cup of black coffee. Most of all, she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Portis and Lena Mixon, two brothers Theamus Mixon and Joe Louis Mixon, and one sister, Janice Mixon, a son Daryl Mixon, and one great grandson Jace Amir Winfree.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Kelron Mixon (Tonya), and Curtis Bynum, her 10 grandchildren, 3 Great Granddaughters, Four sisters: Ramona Head of Fort Wayne, IN, Margie Dansby of Prescott, AR, Marceia Muldrow (Burnis) of Texarkana, TX, Rhadonna Barker (James) of Texarkana, TX, one brother Wendell Latin (Jennifer) of Tomah Wisconsin, her special friends Lisa Rogers & Carolyn Smith, along with a host of God children and family and friends.
