Willie Roy Surry was born January 7, 1941 to Maggie Lee Scott and Eddie Surry in Banks, Alabama. He entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
At a young age, Willie moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended James Smart Hanna School and graduated from Central High School in 1969. In 1970, Willie moved to Elkhart, Indiana.
Willie retired from Elkhart County in 1992 after 30 years of service and returned to Fort Wayne in 1997.
He was known to many as “Sweet Willie” and “Forty”. He enjoyed detailing and cleaning his car, bike, and scooter. Most of all, Willie loved listening to music and being around family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Barbara Surry-Williams, Sarah Creech, Tamara Smart, Breinna Smart and April Weaver; sons, Andre Tatum, James Earl Clayton, Willie Roy Surry, Jr. and Shuntrell Weaver; siblings, William (Donna Jean) Scott, Mary Scott, Hester (Lester) Scott-Powell, Lena Scott-Span and Willie Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie L. Scott; father, Eddie Surry; siblings, Doug Scott, Joe Frank Scott, Sylvia Starks, Mary Alice Striverson, and Major Scott.
